OBITUARY

Ruth Alice Chambers Banks of Cokeburg, PA, entered the Kingdom Triumphant on her 84th birthday, January 9, 2012 at 11:00 P.M. after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Ruth spent the last few days of her life at home surrounded by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, William R. Banks, whom she married July 6, 1953 in Winchester, VA, her beloved daughter Alyce R. (Jim) Curry, of Washington, PA, granddaughter, Alyssa R. (Ezra) Curry-Broderick and great grandson, Jack Broderick all of Washington, PA, sister-in-law, Sheila Chambers of California, PA, and the wonderful staff of Southern Care Hospice and her main nurse Chip Phillips. Ruth was born January 9, 1928 in Uniontown, PA, the daughter of John A. and Ruth M. Chambers. Ruth was a graduate of Brownsville High School Class of 1946. She attended the Florence Utt PBX Goodwin School of Business, Pittsburgh, PA. Ruth was a talented musician playing trumpet in her high school band and later organ at home and sang alto in her church choir for many years at the Cokeburg Presbyterian Church. Ruth loved animals, especially dogs. Her sign by the back door “Dogs Gather Here” told her story as all the neighborhood dogs and a few cats regularly came to visit her for their daily treats. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Ruth and her daughter Alyce were extremely close through out their entire lives and talked and emailed daily. Deceased is her much loved younger brother, William A. Chambers. At the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation or services. The interment will be private at the discretion of the family. Memorial donations may be made to either Southern Care Hospice, Inc., 201 Johnson Road, Building #1, Suite 101, Houston, PA 15342 or Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 Rt. 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
